With the aid and support of Orijen, Qantas has introduced a two year development program for talented women, designed around mentoring and networking. This approach has been proven as a strategy to attract, retain and develop Qantas’executive women.

The Women@Qantas mentoring program aims to strengthen the talent pipeline by assisting talented women to:

  • Build their networks both internally and externally
  • Broaden their knowledge of leadership and business
  • Create career development opportunities
  • Connect and engage with colleagues across the organisation.

A combination of internal and external mentoring opportunities provide the women with broad and empowering mentoring experiences. In their first year, women are provided with a mentor. In the second year they take on a leadership role in mentoring others and after the two year program, they join the Women@Qantas alumni, an advisory and networking community.

The first year program includes:

  • Training on how to be an effective mentoee
  • Matching with a mentor
  • Regular mentoring sessions
  • Ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the mentoring relationship
  • Networking events

The second year of the program includes:

  • Matching with an external mentor
  • Training on how to be a mentor
  • Matching with a mentee
  • Ongoing monitoring and evaluation
  • Networking events

The Women@Qantas Alumni  includes further opportunities for:

  • Mentoring
  • Formal development
  • Secondments
  • Networking events for ‘board ready’ women
